Quick Sketch: Today We Dance

Dance Illustration by Veronica Marché

Tonight I’ll be returning to dance class for the first time in over a year. A little backstory: Before I moved to Philadelphia for grad school, I was with a company, Contradiction Dance, in D.C., and I taught children’s classes in Northern Virginia. With that schedule, I was in a dance studio at least three times a week: two nights in company class with Contradiction, one night jumping around with my favorite kids at Dream in color.

I’ve been so busy with grad school that I’ve almost completely neglected dance, and now my body is starting to feel it. It literally hurts not to move. So these next eight weeks of contemporary modern classes will be a welcome release for me. Did I mention I’m terribly excited?

I love, love, love dancers and the lines they create, especially in contemporary and modern dance. I thought I’d mark this exciting little day with a quick pencil sketch of a contemporary dancer. You can see the original photo here.

Sketchified: Dior Resort

Confession: I love full, flared and pleated skirts. They flip, they swing, they flare when you twirl (and I love to twirl) and they just give me so much joy. Also, they’re tons of fun to draw. So when I saw this cute, swingy mini-skirt from Dior’s latest resort collection, doing a quick fashion illustration was a no-brainer. My other favorite thing about this look: the slouchy, perfectly proportioned inky blue sweater.

Sketchified: Wax Print Fly

Wax Print Fashion Illustration by Veronica Marché

I’m in love with West African wax prints. And when I found this photograph of a chocolate model in a super-cute outfit, I knew I had to sketch her. A slight modification of the pose to create a little more sass, and it was the perfect fashion illustration. Wax prints are a bit time-consuming to render, but when you’re finished, it’s oh-so satisfying.

Now Available: Holiday Cards by Veronica Marché

Cheers to the Holiday! by Veronica Marché

I love, love, LOVE the holidays! And not just because of the family gatherings and twinkling decorations. But also because I get to debut my annual collection of Holiday Cards! I call them the “Fabulous Brown Girl” cards, because they feature, well… fabulous brown girls!

Each card features a fun and stylish fashion figure celebrating the season. And there’s also a special edition “Shoe Tree” card, perfect for your friends who just can’t get enough shoes.

The cards are available through my shop on RedBubble. I absolutely adore the quality of the printing, and each card also comes with an envelope. Oh, and if you purchase 16 cards or more, you get an automatic 30% discount on your orders. Cheers to the season indeed!
