Official "Rock the Red Pump" Badge

Rock The Red Pump: Red Pump Project Commission

I’ve been super fortunate (and super stoked!) to work with some crazy-creative people doing awesome stuff in the past few years. One of them is Luvvie Ajayi, social media strategist and humor blogger extraordinaire. She wears many hats — or, shoes, I should say (it’ll make sense in a second) — but the one of the causes she’s most passionate about is HIV/AIDS awareness. Luvvie is co-founder of The Red Pump Project, a non-profit that addresses the impact of HIV in women and girls. And each they host the Rock the Red Pump Campaign, which gathers movers, shakers and thinkers all across the blogosphere to talk about how the disease is affecting our communities.

This year, Luvvie brought me on to create the official illustration for the “Rock The Red Pump” badge. And  it was so much fun to do. I mean, who can argue with drawing a woman’s favorite thing (shoes!) in support of an amazing cause? Luvvie wanted a funky yet fabulous image that would represent The Red Pump Project and the rainbow ofwomen who are involved in the cause of HIV awareness. I was happy to deliver.

It was so cool to be part of a social media campaign that has been growing so fast since it’s inception. And yeah, it was also pretty cool to see my work pop up unexpectedly when I visited some of my favorite bloggers. This is one of the things I love — image-making that supports a greater cause.
